King Kumara Alakeshwara (Alakeshwara xiii)
Kingdom of Gampola
1391 AC - 1391 AC

After the death of the eleventh Alakeshwara, also known as Prabhu Raja, in Rayigama, his younger son Prince Kumara Alakeshwara ascended to the throne of the Rayigama kingdom.

However, since the Alakeshwara dynasty followed a matrilineal system of succession, Kumara Alakeshwara’s accession created internal conflicts within the Alakeshwara family.

The younger son of the sister of King Alakeshwara XI, Veera Alakeshwara, overthrew Kumara Alakeshwara and seized the throne.

There is no detailed historical account regarding this ruler. It is recorded that Alakeshwara XI died sometime between AD 1382–1387, and it is assumed that from that time he may have ruled until the death of his brother, King Bhuvanekabahu V.

Alternatively, it is also possible that immediately after the death of Alakeshwara XI, Kumara Alakeshwara was overthrown and Veera Alakeshwara seized the throne.

Due to the matrilineal system of succession, there may have been a prevailing belief that the rightful heir was not the son of Alakeshwara XI (Kumara Alakeshwara), but rather the son of his sister (Veera Alakeshwara).
