King Rajadhi Rajasinha
Kingdom of Kandy
1782 AC - 1798 AC

After the unfortunate death of King Kirti Sri Rajasinha, his brother ascended the throne as Rajadhi Rajasinha.

He continued the same religious and cultural policies initiated by his predecessor, maintaining a strong commitment to Buddhism and the revival of the Saṅgha.

Intellectual and Cultural Contributions

King Rajadhi Rajasinha was well-versed in languages and is also regarded as a talented poet. He is credited with rendering the Asadrusa Jataka into Sinhala verse, demonstrating his literary ability and scholarly interest.

Like his brother, he made significant contributions to the development and protection of Buddhism in the Kandyan Kingdom.

Death of the King

According to the historical work Madurapuren A Witti, the king is said to have died due to an accidental sword strike inflicted by a person named Kannasami, who is believed to have been the brother of the chief queen.

This accidental incident led to the sudden and tragic end of his reign.
