King Panditha Parakramabahu VII
Kingdom of Kotte
1478 AC - 1484 AC

Before the death of his father, King Bhuvanekabahu VI, the king released Sirivardhana Pathiraja and the monk of Kuragama, who had been prominent leaders of the “Sinhala Sangaya,” from imprisonment and entrusted them with the protection of his son, Prince Pandita Parakramabahu.

The prince was still very young when his father died. Therefore, it is recorded that the prince’s mother governed the kingdom for six months together with the above-mentioned leaders. Thereafter, the son of King Bhuvanekabahu VI was formally crowned king.

Historical sources describe him as possessing an exceptionally handsome appearance.

Later, Prince Ambulugala marched against the king with an army. Following a fierce battle between Prince Ambulugala and the leaders mentioned above, Ambulugala emerged victorious. It is then said that he entered the royal palace, killed the king, and seized the throne for himself.

At the invitation of this king, the venerable Vidagama Maitri Thera composed the literary work Elu Attanagalu Vamsaya (Elu Attanagalu Vamsaya).

Apart from this, historical sources provide little information regarding other notable services or achievements of this king.
