King Buvanekabahu V
Kingdom of Gampola
1371 AC - 1407 AC

After King Vikramabahu IV, according to the matrilineal system of succession during the Gampola period, the throne passed to the son of the king’s sister, Prince Bhuvanekabahu. He is identified as King Bhuvanekabahu V.

During this period, the power of the Arya Chakravartis in the north increased significantly, while the king’s prime minister, Alakeshwara, is said to have successfully resisted all invasions.

It is also mentioned that the king himself fled in fear to Rayigama.

The literary works “Elu Attanagalu Vamsa” and “Mayura Sandesa” are among the important texts believed to have been composed during this king’s reign.
