King Buvanekabahu III (Vanni Buwanekabahu)
Kingdom of Kurunegala
1326 AC - 1335 AC

After King Parakramabahu IV, historians have expressed different opinions regarding how King Bhuvanekabahu III ascended the throne and who he was related to. The reason for this uncertainty is that this king is not mentioned in the Pujavaliya or Rajavaliya, and in the Mahavamsa he is only briefly referred to in Chapter 88, verse 105.

Even in that short verse, the name of the later King Vijayabahu V is also mentioned. That verse indicates that after the death of King Parakramabahu IV, a king named Vanni Bhuvanekabahu ascended the throne, and after his death, Prince Jayabahu became king.

Except for a few very recent publications, the relationship between King Parakramabahu IV and King Vijayabahu V is not clearly described in the main historical sources.

As mentioned above, some modern works state that King Vijayabahu V (also known as Sulu Vijayabahu) was the son of King Parakramabahu IV. Likewise, King Bhuvanekabahu III (Vanni Bhuvanekabahu) is also described in some sources as a son of King Parakramabahu IV. However, no definitive historical evidence regarding the lineage of these kings has yet been established.

The genealogical relationships have been presented based on these varying accounts.
