King Parakramabahu IV
Kingdom of Kurunegala
1302 AC - 1326 AC

Prince Parakramabahu, the legitimate son of King Bhuvanekabahu II, ascended the throne of Kurunegala. He was also known by the epithet “Pandita Parakramabahu”, and is identified as King Parakramabahu IV.

He assembled the Buddhist monks and re-established the ordination ceremony (Upasampada). Among the most important contributions of his reign was the composition of “Dalada Siritha” in Sinhala by his own wisdom and intellect, as well as the translation of the “Pansiya Panas Jataka Potha” from Pali into Sinhala.

In addition, the “Sinhala Bodhivamsa” and “Anagata Vamsa” are two other notable works that were composed under his royal patronage.

After King Parakramabahu IV, there is no clear account in the chronicles regarding how the throne passed to King Bhuvanekabahu III. However, the chronicles describe King Parakramabahu IV as a monarch who rendered great service to the Buddhist order.
