King Dappula III
Kingdom of Anuradhapura
923 AC - 923 AC

After the fifth King Kashyapa, the throne was ascended by Crown Prince Dappula. He appears under this name as the third Dappula. The Mahavamsa does not mention whose son this king was. However, evidence from inscriptions allows him to be identified as a son of King Dewan Sena. Next, it is clear from inscriptions that the Dappula who ascended the throne after him was also a son of King Dewan Sena. Therefore, according to the customary succession order, the third Dappula can be considered the eldest brother of King Dappula. Although the Mahavamsa generally mentions the absence of an heir for a king who is succeeded, it appears to have omitted the genealogical sequence from the third Dappula King to the fourth Sena King. This gap is supplemented by inscriptions and other texts.

King Dappula appointed another prince named Dappula as crown prince. It appears that this king did nothing besides granting a village to the Mirisavati Vihara. He did not have time for other activities. The Mahavamsa states that he acted according to prior reports. No inscriptions or other documents from his period have been found. The third Dappula King ruled for a short time. He passed away.
